In this placement students will have the chance of hands-on practical experience in a busy bistro environment and also club reception. As well they will be observing and learning from qualified and experienced professionals. Management is very supportive of the SWL program and staff are friendly. Students will be operating in a busy, modern and well equipped workplace. This is a great opportunity to learn about the hospitality industry in a club environment..
Skills You Might Learn
The use of basic food preparation techniques and equipment will be a focus. For example, preparing food stuffs for cooking and serving. As well students will learn workplace communication and customer service in the reception area.They will also assist with the maintenance and cleaning of the kitchen facilities.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Tasks will be around assisting other employees in their roles and the student will be expected to be an active participant in all workplace practices. They will work as part of a team while under regular supervision. Food preparation and service plus reception duties are typical tasks and experiences with this placement.
Student Requirements
The students must have completed the OH&S module in WRS VCAL or else have begun the OH&S module in the relevant VET course.
Dress Requirements
Students are to wear neat casual dress appropriate for the work place.
Special Transport Requirements
Students may need to organise their own transport to work but there is a bus service in Swan Hill which may be of some use.
