The Occasional Child Care Centre at Casey Arc aims to provide safe, high quality care and developmental opportunities for children aged from 6 weeks to 5 years (up to 12 years during school holidays) As a YMCA Children's Service they embrace the Vic Early Years Learning and Development Framework, supporting the five learning outcomes for children. The centre is open from Mon -Friday 9.00 to 2.00pm therefore student placements will be for 5.00 hours a day. This is a great place to gain a range of skills with a varied aged group.

Skills You Might Learn

A broad range of skills and experience over a range of ages which will contribute to your practical placement requirements to complete your qualification. Skills attained may include: - practical care of babies including nappy changing, feeding, settling. Care of children including set up and pack up of activities for play and learning, observation, developing a journal of experiences. Students will gain practical application of OH&S and Food Safety. General employ-ability skills will be attained, including accepting advice and direction, working as part of a small team and dressing in an appropriate manner for a childcare environment, using age appropriate language.

Typical Tasks & Duties

All duties related to childcare including setting up play areas, setting up and supporting children with art and craft activities, assisting with feeding children, supporting children in creative play activities and cleaning duties. There will also be packing up duties.

Student Requirements

Students will be required to have current first aide and a working with children's check. Ask at interview if a police check is required. Must have a keen interest in childcare and enjoy being in an environment with multiple ages of children. Must adhere to the no nut policy. Students must be willing to follow instructions and work within a team.

Dress Requirements

Neat presentation is required. Closed in shoes, no heels. Sun smart policy applies. Please discuss details with employer prior to commencement of placement

Special Transport Requirements

Bus to Fountain Gate shopping centre. Site is next to Bunjil Place
