In this placement students will have the chance of hands-on practical experience in meat retailing. As well they will be observing and learning from qualified and experienced professionals. The shop owner is very supportive of the SWL program and staff are friendly. Students will be operating in a modern and well equipped butcher shop.This is a great opportunity to learn about the butchering trade.

Skills You Might Learn

The use of basic butchering processes will be a focus. For example, crumbing of meat and preparing meat for sale will be learnt. As well students will learn workplace communication in real life scenarios. They will also assist with customer service and the maintenance and cleaning of shop facilities.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Tasks will be around assisting other employees in their roles and the student will be expected to be an active participant in all workplace practices. They will work as part of a team while under regular supervision. Cleaning up, assisting customers and communicating in the workplace are typical tasks and experiences with this placement.

Student Requirements

The students must have completed the OH&S module in WRS VCAL or else have begun the OH&S module in the relevant VET course.

Dress Requirements

Students are to wear neat casual dress appropriate for the work place.

Special Transport Requirements

Students may need to organise their own transport to work but there is a bus service in Swan Hill.
