This opportunity will provide students with a good understanding of how the industry operates with 3D joinery design layouts.

Skills You Might Learn

Students who undertake this opportunity will be enhancing the skills and knowledge that they are learning in their VETiS program. This may include; OH&S specific skills, hand and power tools, calculations for the construction trade, communication skills, working within a team, assembly and construction of products, prepping of various materials.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Assisting Tradesmen to manufacture Kitchens
Follow OH & S requirements
The use of Measurements & Calculations for construction of kitchens
Edging
Filing
Using hand and power tools under supervision
Communication with other staff/employers/supervisors/administration/management
Follow worksite procedures and assist with keeping a clean and tidy work area at all times.
Construction of components
Assembling components
Preparing of various materials
Following instruction from supervisors

Student Requirements

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS:
Prior to the interview with the host employer, students are required to review the businesses web page and learn some background information on the organisation and what it is they do.
Whilst the students are attending a work placement they are expected to:
Dress appropriately
Maintain interest and participate in work duties
Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner
Be punctual
Follow management instructions
Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements
Work within the team
Listen and take advice from fellow workers
Participate in business activities as required
Respect other people’s belongings
Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference
Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course
Take their Log Book to the work placement every day
Construction Induction Card (CI Card) recommended but not mandatory as placement will be based at the workplace.



Dress Requirements

Safety Boots
Appropriate work wear
Students will need to wear safety glasses and ear muffs at placement

Special Transport Requirements

Public transport is limited. Students are advised to make their own transport arrangement.
