This exciting and new placement will be in the Tourism sector. We is a not-for-profit incorporated association, dedicated to developing and maintaining a prosperous tourism industry in the Yarrawonga Mulwala region. "We believe that the knowledge and skills in the tourism and hospitality industry is an aspect of every business. It is listening, imparting and sharing knowledge to suit certain interests to ensure the best possible experience and outcomes" Team Leader, Suggested areas of focus for a work placement student include: event management, customer Service, receptionist, tourism ambassador volunteer, tour guide, personal assistant and destination marketing through social media (photography & storytelling).

- Media (Websites, TV, Print media and Social Media).

Typical Tasks & Duties

Tourism Information Offices provide travel, hospitality and accommodation information to tourists, promote tourism and assess tourist opportunities in local communities.
The folowing tasks may be performed: answer questions from tourists, visitors, local residents and other tourism industry colleagues, in person, over the phone, via email or online. Make suggestions on travel routes, tours, accommodation and local attractions. Provide literature and information on local, interstate and international tours and places of interest. Maintain literature and brochure stocks. Sell souvenires and other merchandise. Undertake general administration office duties. Be responsible for the overall presentation of the information centre. Understand more about marketing (advertising and promotions) and also spend some time looking at different types of media communication (websites, TV, print media and social media).

Student Requirements

To work in an information centre the student needs to enjoy being with and working with people. Need good interpersonal, communication and customer service skills. Good organisation skills. Be comfortable using computers and have a reasonable geographical knowledge.

Dress Requirements

Another good idea is to look at the people at the workplace during your interview – observe what they are wearing and use this as a guide for how you should dress when you attend your placement.
