Keystone Masonry specialises in all aspects of stonemasonry, from traditional restoration and drystone construction to new build solid stone construction and cladding systems. Keystone Masonry have been working in the Melbourne and the surrounding area since 2017. This is a great opportunity for a student to learn from and work alongside experienced professionals. There is potential for an apprenticeship for a student who is keen to work in the industry.

Skills You Might Learn

Students will gain skills related to their Building and Construction certificate, specifically in stonemasonry and brick and block laying, as well as industry specially knowledge about the latest trends in stonemasonry. Students will also gain valuable skills such as teamwork, communication with team members, attention to detail and accuracy.

Typical Tasks & Duties

A student successful in securing a placement with keystone Masonry, will have the opportunity to be a part of a range of projects. Students will work alongside the stonemasons and complete basic labouring tasks, including setting up for jobs, preparing tools and equipment, measuring, levelling, cutting and building stone and using power tools. Tasks will also depend on a students’ current skill level, and willingness to learn.

Student Requirements

Students are required to be enrolled in a certificate 2 in Building and Construction or would like to move into an apprenticeship in Stonemasonry. Students need to have good basic mathematic skills, should also be willing to learn, ask questions if they are unsure and show initiative. Paying attention to detail is critical in this placement.
It is essential that students can be on their feet all day and are okay to lift heavy items.

Dress Requirements

Students are required to wear steel capped boots, work pants or shorts or suitable wet weather work clothes. A T-shirt or long-sleeved top is fine. PPE gear will be provided.

Special Transport Requirements

Students are required to make their own way to and from the project site. A lift could be arranged from Carnegie with the employer if needed.
