Living and Learning @ Ajani
Living and Learning @ Ajani (formerly, Bulleen and Templestowe Community House – BATCH) is a focal point for the Bulleen – Templestowe community, responding to the diversity of cultures, ages and abilities in the community by providing a wide range of quality courses and activities at an affordable price, in an accessible, approachable meeting place. Services provided include short courses, a community garden and Community Hub and cafe, which also provides meals to those in need.
Ajani is staffed by a small group of committed people who are enthusiastic about providing quality and affordable community programs. We are looking for an enthusiastic student to fit into this dynamic and passionate team. In this workplace, your personality is more important than your resume, as “Skills can be taught!”
Regular attendance is a must for the smooth continuity of our programs and for the placement student to get the most out of their time with us.
Skills You Might Learn
Business Admin students may have the opportunity to develop office skills, customer service and reception skills, understanding of admin processes including communication (post, email, marketing), document keeping (archiving, filing, copying, shredding) and the use of various office technologies.
Community Services students may have the opportunity to develop industry specific skills, including assisting clients participating in programs, and planning activites and schedules for programs.
Transferrable skills which are vital in this workplace include teamwork, problem solving, planning and organising, and especially demonstrating initiative.
Due to the structure of Living and Learning @ Ajani it is expected that placement students will demonstrate teamwork by participating in some office duties and some hands on duties regardless of their course of study.
Typical Tasks & Duties
During this placement, the successful candidate may undertake some or all of the following tasks;
- Office duties, including reception, filing and computer based skills
- Hands on assistance with community groups and programs (depending upon attendance days and activities being held)
- Assisting with staff or clients in the community garden
- Assist with media and marketing for upcoming projects and events
- Work on project based activities, depending on timing
- Other tasks as reasonably directed by the supervisor
Student Requirements
This placement is best suited to a VCE or VCAL student currently undertaking Community Services, Business Administration or similar, or a combination of relevant studies.
Dress Requirements
Smart casual, suitable for office and light work. Closed shoes, no tights. Recommended clothes may vary depending upon activities. To be discussed further at interview.
Special Transport Requirements
Venue is close to bus access.
Travel Form is not required as the student will not be travelling between sites.
