Time spent in the engineering department at SHDH will help a motivated young person to learn engineering type skills. Plumbing, Electrical and Fitting and Turning expertise are all on show during this placement. If you are at all interested in this field don't overlook the opportunity provided by SHDH. Staff are friendly and helpful and management is very supportive of the SWL program. Your careers teacher will be familiar with application process for placement at SHDH.

Skills You Might Learn

Students will work as part of a team in the engineering department at SHDH. They will use communication skills and problem solving strategies as they assist staff in a variety of trades. By handling different tools and equipment students will become more capable in their use.

Typical Tasks & Duties

A motivated young person will learn engineering skills as they will be exposed to a number of engineering projects. The focus is mainly on repairs and maintenance which means a great variety of tasks and experiences for students.

Student Requirements

Students must have completed the OH&S module in WRS VCAL or else have begun the OH&S module in the relevant VET course.

Dress Requirements

. Dress must be neat casual and suited to the workplace. This includes sturdy steel capped work boots. All other safety gear is provided by the employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Students make their own way to work and there is a town bus service to assist.
