Typical Tasks & Duties

Students may undertake tasks and typical duties only if they are completing a relevant VET qualification and the structured workplace learning will allow them to obtain or further develop the skills and knowledge outlined in a relevant unit of competency within the qualification.
Students will assist trained staff in performing duties, students receiving high level supervision. Duties may include but not limited to customer service roles in the various sections of the store. Students will learn about stock replenishment, warehousing and product delivery systems and displays, as well as, assisting customers to locate items.
Students will be responsible for the following tasks;
- As an Administration Assistant, students will perform a range of routine duties in an office environment.
- Maintain an orderly office filing system.
- Answer phone enquiries.
- Typing and distribution of general letters.
- Operate and assist others with office equipment.
- Collect and distribute mail.
- Communicate and work as a productive team member in the workplace.
- Produce simple word processed documents.
- Create and use spreadsheets.
- Communicate electronically.
- Organise and complete daily work activities, including completing daily Workplace Learning Record employability skill assessments.

Student Requirements

Students are permitted to learn how to use equipment only if they are explicitly required in the performance criteria or assessment requirements of a unit of competency the student is undertaking as part of a VET qualification.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality of clients and customers.
- The students must have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) module in Work Related Skills or the OH&S module in the relevant VET course.
- Dress appropriately.
- Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
- Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
- Be punctual.
- Follow management instructions.
- Work within the team.
- Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
- Respect other people’s belongings.
- Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
- Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
- Take their Workplace Learning Record and/or school issued assessment record to the work placement every day.
- Personal mobile phones are not required during work hours. Mobile phones or devices are only to be used during meal breaks and out of work hours.

Dress Requirements

Please discuss uniform requirements with the employer at the preplacement interview. Students will be expected to wear neat casual dress appropriate for the workplace, sturdy closed in toe and heal shoes are essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied by the employer for tasks involving cleaning and maintenance activities.

Special Transport Requirements

The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Structured Workplace Learning Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
