Kew Golf Club are happy to host young people interested in gaining exposure in all facets of Golf Course Maintenance. This would suit people studying a VET in Horticulture or the like. There is real potential for apprenticeships in Sports Turf Management for motivated and interested students.

Placements are available throughout school year and are 5 days long with potential to extend if both parties agree.

This placement could align with your Certificate II in Horticulture/Landscaping via the following Units of Competency:
AHCPCM201 Recognise plants
AHCWRK209 Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices
AHCPMG201 Treat weeds

Skills You Might Learn

Students completing a placement here have the potential to gain the following skills: team work, communication, organisational skills, interpersonal skills, use of hand tools, use of power equipment, general course and gardening maintenance, irrigation, course upkeep.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Depending on skills, students completing a placement here can expect to: rake bunkers, change holes in greens, mow greens & tees, irrigation repairs and turf construction, maintain fairways, and clear debris from the course.

Student Requirements

Ideally, students should have an interest in gardening maintenance. They should also be enthusiastic and willing to learn, punctual, neat presentation, strong work ethic and prepared to work in all weather conditions. An interest/understanding of golf is desirable, but not essential.

Dress Requirements

Clothing provided by the employer. Wet weather gear, gloves, shirt & jumper and boots if required.

Special Transport Requirements

Not the easiest to get to via Public Transport, but it is available.

Attendance: Dates and times are to be negotiated when arranging placement. Standard working day is 7am to 2pm. Later starts can be negotiated. For 1 day per week Placements - placements should only be for a maximum of 5 weeks. A student can seek another 5 weeks (20 weeks maximum, as per guidelines) should both the student and employer agree after the commencement of the first placement.
