Skills You Might Learn

You will gain a grounding in parts and repair of trucks vital to the day to day operation of the business. You will learn safety and quality control, gain a solid grounding in diesel maintenance and repair, become familiar with the inspection of and routine repair of waste collection trucks and machinery. You will be provided with opportunity to try a variety of tasks within heavy vehicle road transport maintenance, from changing tyers, to helping in the service pit and shadowing trades people.

Typical Tasks & Duties

You will shadow and assist trades persons with the servicing and repair of a range of heavy vehicles involved in road transport. You will work across a variety of tasks supporting with the dismantling and repair of parts for example helping in service pits, changing tyres, diagnosing problems etc. Depending on your skills and ability you will learn to work safely with large machinery, complementing your technical knowledge. Safe work practices are necessary along with maintaining quality control.

Student Requirements

You will need to have an interest in diesel mechanics, able to follow instructions, work as part of a team, have good attitude and be reliable. If you also enjoy practical and manual activities and happy to get your hands dirty then this is the placement for you!

Dress Requirements

Long pants, long sleeve shirt, high vis. vest and steel capped safety boots are required. Other safety gear and overalls will be provided.
