Candlebark Community Nursery
Supplying an extensive range of indigenous flora this community nursery stocks a vast array of plants from delicate groundcovers to huge eucalyptus trees . Seed is collected from the Maroondah, Yarra Ranges and Manningham areas and plants are propagated and grown on site. This SWL opportunity is ideally suited to students who are undertaking a Certificate in Horticulture to learn from experts in the horticultural industry. Please noote : the Nursery is not open on Fridays.
Skills You Might Learn
Students will gain valuable experience in the industry which may include improved recognition and identification of different plant genus and species types, determination of different types of soil/growing media. Students will participate in OHS processes and environmentally sustainable work practices. Experience first hand the ongoing processes within a nursery of how plants are managed from initial propagation through to maturity.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Students tasks may include pricking out and potting up, plant maintenance including weeding, transferring plant stock and general care. Basic plant identification and recognition of indigenous plants. Determining basic properties of soil/growing media.

Students need to dress appropriately for the weather and for outdoor work. Closed toed shoes are required.
