2018 Opportunity!! This placement will have students out and about on a variety of farming enterprises. The business is involved in offering agronomy services to farmers. This is a great opportunity for a student find out more about a booming area of the agribusiness sector.
Skills You Might Learn
The student will gain an understanding of working within an operational farm. Students can expect to attain skills in various alternative farming techniques, workplace safety, environmentally sustainable work practices, working within teams, safe handling of farm animals and recognition of plants, trees, soil types and pests.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Normal duties will include assisting existing staff with animal husbandry, milking, feeding, ration formulation, pasture improvement, fencing and fodder conservation.
Other duties will depend upon the season and the time of year, but will include use of farm machinery, maintenance of machinery, fixing and erecting fences and gates, carting and transporting livestock, collecting farming equipment and supplies, working as a team member, supporting other team members.
Student Requirements
Students must be interested in working in a multi-faceted agricultural environment and be comfortable working with farm animals. Work days can vary quite a bit, so a student must be adaptable and flexible with their attitude towards work.
Dress Requirements
Students to wear normal workwear with safety boots or shoes.
