Woolworths Newmarket Plaza is offering SWL opportunities for young people who have an interest in exploring work in Retail. Students undertaking this SWL will be involved in various aspects of supermarket and retail work in order to build a strong understanding of the industry. Woolworths offers a friendly and supportive workplace atmosphere with a management team who are enthusiastic about the SWL program. Woolworths use work placements as a recruiting tool so students who do well may find employment at Woolworths as a result of their placement.

Skills You Might Learn

Students will develop a range of skills including, teamwork skills, customer service skills, merchandising and stock management knowledge, point of sale knowledge.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will assist staff carrying out their duties. This will include customer service in the various sections of the store, undertaking and learning about stock replenishment and displays and work in a range departments within the store. They may provide customer service on the register, while being supervised. Overall, a broad range of key retail skills and experiences will be covered.

Student Requirements

The students should have completed the OH&S module in their studies. The management team value students who are responsible, hard working. enthusiastic, are able to listen and take direction and present themselves in a neat and tidy manner.

Dress Requirements

Neat casual. Students to wear comfortable closed-toe shoes. School uniform can be worn.

Special Transport Requirements

As the main shop in the Newmarket Plaza, it is centrally located to all public transport, opposite Newmarket Train Station and Tram stop and close to the bus stop as well.
