This is a very diverse SWL opportunity. Do you want to try your hand at understanding the needs required to assist construction of a variety of structures and machinery. The owner operator who is a boiler maker by trade with welding tickets and years of diverse experience engages in a variety of activities in the construction industry, from transporting and moving machinery, welding, jacking and skating machinery, to erecting sheds and shade sails in a variety of settings.
Skills You Might Learn
You will learn the importance and practical application of materials handling - how heavy machinery is moved and maneuvered, rigging skills and how to attach slings and equipment, basic use of hand tools, cordless power tools for smaller construction projects. You will learn the importance of safe work practices in the construction industry and how different skills are required in the construction of a building/ equipment.
Typical Tasks & Duties
This opportunity will depend on the owners activity but may include basic construction of domestic and commercial shade sails, using hand tools, cordless power tools, rigging skills and assisting with construction and installation of some equipment eg. dry cleaning machinery.
Student Requirements
A willingness to learn and follow instruction - an understanding of safety on work sites and white card will be required.
Dress Requirements
Steel capped boots, clothing suitable for factory work, high visibility shirt and jumper. Ear and eye protection will be supplied. No baggy clothing. Long hair is to be kept up.
Special Transport Requirements
Transport will depend on the work location - discuss transport with employer
