Skills You Might Learn
The use of basic food preparation techniques and equipment will be a focus. For example observing and assisting with the preparation of ingredients for baking will provide learning experiences. They will also assist with the maintenance and cleaning of baking gear and facilities.
Organisational skills about processes and learning how to coordinate ingredients, timing and preparation.
Typical Tasks & Duties
The student will be part of a hard working team in the bakery back of house preparation area as an Assistant Baker. The student will be responsible for assistance with the preparation, baking and decorating of high quality bread, pastries, cakes and sandwich lines for the bakery.
The student will also complete general cleaning duties of the back of house area before, during and after service. The student will complete duties including food handling and machine cleaning as instructed. Be physically fit and be capable of working on their feet. The student will work under direct supervision of the Manager in charge.
Student Requirements
Students with a positive attitude towards Hospitality: Baking, with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, have a consistent and good work ethic, willing to listen and follow instructions are encouraged to consider a SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET subject in Hospitality.
Dress Requirements
Uniform provided, close toed shoes required.
