This employer is a family owned local business which has been providing custom cabinetry solutions throughout the region for over 30 years. This is a large and busy factory with its own showroom on site. They design and make unique kitchens, bathrooms and custom design joinery with the process starting at the showroom with design consultation, colour selection through to the provision of 3D drawings, making the cabinetry and culminating with full installation.
Skills You Might Learn
Students who undertake this opportunity will be enhancing the skills and knowledge that they are learning in their VETiS program. This may include; OH&S specific skills, hand and power tools, calculations for the construction trade, communication skills, working within a team, assembly and construction of products, prepping of various materials.
Typical Tasks & Duties
The student will be assisting the tradesmen with all aspects of the cabinet making trade. This may include prepping material/wood, sanding, edging, filing, use of hand and power tools (under supervision), assembling components, joinery work, construction of basic products and the use of building calculations. The student will be required to follow worksite procedures and assist with keeping a clean and tidy work area at all times.
Student Requirements
Student must be keen to learn the furniture making / cabinetry trade, be punctual, willing to listen and learn from the tradesmen and follow all worksite OHS procedures
Dress Requirements
Students must wear protective clothing, safety footwear (steel cap boots) and have their own ear and eye protection.
