He is keen to introduce a student to what his business does and allow them the opportunity to work in a hands-on environment. This position would suit a student who is interested in the horticulture, gardening, landscaping and general carpentry.
Skills You Might Learn
The student will gain an understanding of working within the horticulture, landscaping industry. Students can expect to attain skills in workplace safety, environmentally sustainable work practices, landscape construction, garden maintenance and recognition of plants, trees, soil types and pests.
Typical Tasks & Duties
The student will be learning all aspects of the gardening and landscaping industry. Duties may involve; general landscape construction work, labouring, planting out, rolling out of turf, mowing, operation of basic machinery and equipment, laying of irrigation/draining pipes/retaining walls, identification or trees, plants & shrubs, general carpentry and cleaning of worksite.
Student Requirements
The student must have an interest in horticulture and landscaping and have a willingness and capability to do general labouring duties. Students may at times need to bring their own food and drink to the worksites.
Dress Requirements
Work pants and steel capped boots. Ear and eye protection, warm jacket for cold days and hat and sunscreen for warmer months.
Special Transport Requirements
Must be able to get to various work sites
