Typical Tasks & Duties
During your placement, you may undertake the following:
- Provide a link between the kitchen and service areas.
- Investigate the menus. Investigate who plans menus and how often they are changed.
- Research and plan your own menu and complete a stock order list (include prices for stock and plan menu prices to ensure profit)
- Identify OH&S policies and procedures in the workplace.
- Maintain the venues cleanliness and organisation. I.e. clean equipment; clean and tidy work areas
- Learn more about food handling and hygiene.
- Learn about following instructions
- Learn about working in a team
- Learn to work quickly, competently and safely.
- Report daily to senior management.
Student Requirements
Previous experience in a commercial kitchen is an advantage, but not essential.
Work effectively as part of a team.
Have excellent communication skills.
Present yourself professionally and neatly.
Ability to stay calm under pressure.
Dress Requirements
This placement requires attention to detail and clean and tidy presentation. Please contact employer for details relating to specific dress requirements prior to the placement commencement date.
Another good idea is to look at the people at the workplace during your interview – observe what they are wearing and use this as a guide for how you should dress when you attend your placement.
