Koala Childcare and Early Learning Centre Warrnambool
Koala Kindergarten and Childcare centre is a modern progressive Kindergarten and Childcare Centre. In 2018 they will have a purpose built kindergarten for 3 and 4 year old with qualified teachers and room leaders. This placement is suitable for students who are interested in childcare and early childhood education. This centre operates in a small room environment so the scoop for students is large. This centre would be a wonderful introduction to Early Childhood Education or quality Childcare.
Students on placement at the centre will support staff to provide a play based learning curriculum that supports children’s learning. The focus is on identifying children’s interest areas as well as including the requirements of the governments early childhood framework “Belonging, being and becoming”.
Skills You Might Learn
All aspects related to child care. Supporting the children in their development, providing experiences for play, developing interests, assist in maintaining a clean environment, Preparing food. Assisting with activities and programs. Students will learn procedures for allergy management, procedures for managing problem behaviours, research policy on sun safety, know the strategies for child safety and security and be able to identify signs and symptoms of common childhood illnesses.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Assist in looking after the children in allocated rooms. This could vary from week to week depending on need. Support children in play and in all their daily needs eg health and wellbeing. Help children with daily routines such as toileting, dressing,eating and sleeping.Maintain a safe, clean and appealing environment. Prepare play and learning materials and cleaning and maintaining these areas will be require
Student Requirements
An understanding and want to work with children and to develop a strong understanding of all aspects of child care.The student needs to be alert,observant and active.Able to use judgement and initiative,willing to accept responsibility and work within a team. The student needs to shows patience and be able to communicate with parents.
Dress Requirements
Neat casual black pants, no leggings, covered shoes. School polo top is required to be worn by all students. This helps staff and families to identify students. Jewelry must be kept to a minimum due to OH&S regulations.
Special Transport Requirements
Students will organise their own transport to and from the work place.
