Typical Tasks & Duties

Students are required to demonstrate a cheerful outlook towards hospitality and customer service. Students are encouraged to consider a SWL placement to develop skills learned from their Industry and Enterprise subject and/or VET in Hospitality and/or Business Services.
Students will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Engaging with customers related to hospitality activities as advised by trained staff.
- Completing all related cleaning and set up and packing away tasks as assigned by assisting trained staff.
- Assisting trained staff with related to business administration and basic filing methods as instructed.
- Engaging with customers as advised by Magdala trained staff.

Student Requirements

Students will assist trained staff in performing duties, students receiving high level supervision. Students are encouraged to consider a SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET course in Business Services or Hospitality.

Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
- Student must be interested in Business Administration as part of the Business Services industry.
- Student must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
- Students should only undertake this SWL placement if they are motivated and willing to actively participate in tasks and duties that will enhance their employability skills.
- Dress appropriately.
- Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
- Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
- Punctuality is important and any planned or unplanned absences must be reported to both the workplace supervisor and the careers teacher.
- Follow management instructions.
- Have good communication skills.
- Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
- Work within the team.
- Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
- Respect other people’s belongings.
- Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
- Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
- Students are to complete any applicable relevant course work and/or Workplace Learning Record entries as outlined in the SWL Arrangement.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.

Dress Requirements

All students undertaking a SWL placement with Magdala are required to wear
- Black Pants
- Black Shoes (Comfortable, polished or good/presentable condition)
- Black or White Shirt/Blouse/Tee

Special Transport Requirements

The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Structured Workplace Learning Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
