Skills You Might Learn

Students will gain an understanding of and develop the basic skills related to working in the Construction Industry - Carpentry.

Students will learn to work in a team, communicate effectively in the workplace, be punctual at all times, present at work in appropriate work attire, follow instructions, complete work with a good eye for detail and adhere to OH&S requirements at the work site.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified carpenters assisting with general carpentry tasks and duties.

Tasks and duties may include assisting to plan, prepare and organise daily work, safely manual handle building and construction materials, basic hand tools and equipment for carpentry, help prepare surfaces for building and construction, safely use basic carpentry hand tools, apply OH&S requirements for the construction industry and clean and maintain the worksite.

Student Requirements

Whilst the student is attending the work experience placement they are expected to:
• Show a genuine interest in the Construction Industry - Carpentry.
• Carry a Victorian Construction Induction Card (CI Card), please note: obtaining the CI Card is required prior to attending the work experience placement.
• Be willing to observe, listen and learn while working in our team.

Dress Requirements

The student will be required to present at work in the following work attire;
• Work pants.
• Hi visual shirt.
• Steel capped work boots.
• Wide brim hat.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Student to arrange own transport to and from work.
