Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced staff assisting with general tasks and duties relating to business administration, retail sales and warehousing operations. The tasks and duties will provide business administration and retail skills for students to assist in a retail outlet. Tasks may include assist to prepare for daily activities, customer service, answering phones, taking messages and transferring calls, attending to incoming and outgoing mail, assist with stationery orders, assist with filing system, use office equipment in a safe manner, observing register (point-of-sale) operation and procedures, replenishment of products, merchandise and pricing as well as warehouse operations work to receive stock in storeroom and prepare stock for placement in store. You would be responsible for ensuring the retail store and warehouse is kept orderly and clean, and that goods are secured, properly displayed and stored.

The student may participate in activities as instructed, safely manual handle and use materials and equipment at the work area, clean and maintain the work area and apply OH&S requirements for the Industry.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Business Services and Retail Industry – Administration and Retail Services Assistant who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future WE placement to develop skills learned from their secondary school subjects relating to Administration and Retail Services Assistant.

Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the Business Services and Retail Industry – Administration and Retail Services Assistant. and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.


Dress Requirements

The student must be well presented and groomed, the student will be required to present in the following work attire;
• Work boots.
• Work pants or shorts.
• Staff issued shirt.
• No inappropriate slogans or ripped clothing.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Student to arrange own transport to and from work.
