Skills You Might Learn
The students undertaking these opportunities will be enhancing the skills and knowledge that they are learning in their VETiS program. This may include; OH&S specific skills, hand and power tools, calculations for the building trade, how to read a plan, site preparation, communication skills, working within a team, setting out, framing, and scaffolding.
Typical Tasks & Duties
The students will be assisting with house framing. This may include setting out, framing, scaffolding, use of hand and power tools (under supervision), site clean-ups and building calculations. The students will be required to follow worksite procedures and assist with keeping a clean and tidy work area at all times.
Student Requirements
The student is expected to:
- be diligent, polite, enthusiastic and well organised
- able to follow instructions
- pay attention to detail
- possess problem-solving skills
- have good communication skills
- ask questions when needed to ensure understanding
- maintain safe practice at all times.
Dress Requirements
The student must wear protective clothing, safety footwear (steel cap boots), ear and eye protection, hat and sunscreen. Bring along nail bag, hammer other tools if student has these tools, otherwise employer will provide.
Special Transport Requirements
