GTS Freight Management, is a national leader in the Transport and Logistics Industry and have a great opportunity for a student studying a VDSS subject in Business Services or Information Technology to gain skills in Compliance and Safety.

The SWL Opportunity is ideally suited to a VCE-VM, VPC or VCE student studying VET Business or VET Information Technology as part of their study program.

• Liaising and working with supervisors, colleagues, industry personnel, customers/clients and suppliers.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will undertake duties as a Compliance and Safety Assistant as part of a professional and dedicated team in the day to day function of the company’s services. The student will complete basic administration duties as instructed, working under supervision relating to duties listed below.

Compliance and Safety duties would include but are not limited to:
• Safe Work.
• Schedule audits
• Investigate, action relating to audits
• Preparing documentation for audits
• Schedule and implement internal audits regularly to identify any gaps prior to external audits.
• Distribute Audit certificates as required.
• Review policies, procedures, manuals, SWMS, SOPs.
• Review work practices and ensure compliance.
• Conduct Risk Assessments regularly.
• Assist in staff drug and alcohol testing.
• Investigating driving practices (via Drive Cam). Manage the instillation, review and coaching of the In Vehicle Camera systems.
• Investigating work-place incidents and collisions, near misses, hazards, NCRs.
• Coaching employees on best work practices; arrange retraining if required.
• Develop Toolbox Talks.
• Complete periodical reports for Customers.
• Participate in meetings.
• Organise workplace information.
• Utilise a knowledge management system.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Compliance and Business Administration with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VDSS subject in Business Services or Information Technology.

Whilst the students is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.

Dress Requirements

The student will be required to present in the following work attire;
• Neat company issued work shirt.
• Work pants.
• Closed footwear must be worn.
• Professionally presented at all times.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
