Do you care about the environment, and have a passion for preserving it? If yes, an opportunity exists for five enthusiastic students to undertake a placement with experienced and friendly staff who promote sustainable and diverse indigenous landscapes. A student will be drawn from one of the following five local governments: Hume/Whittlesea; Merri-bec; Hobsons Bay/Wyndham; Morning Peninsula; and Boroondara to work in a worksite located within the municipality they are drawn from. Naturelinks is a company that manages and constructs indigenous landscapes throughout Melbourne. Naturelinks is committed and aims to provide a service with high quality and environmental standards. It does this through partnerships with the community and the provision of a happy and safe workplace of its workforce whose contribution is acknowledged and valued.
Skills You Might Learn
The students will be given the opportunity to develop knowledge about ecological restoration principles and practices, indigenous and weed plants. Students will also learn the following:
- basic understanding of Naturelinks' HSEQ system
- safe use and maintenance of hand held machinery and chemicals.
- ability to complete specified tasks within a set timeframe
- communications skills and working well within a team.
Typical Tasks & Duties
The students will work under supervision, as directed to undertake routine bushland management tasks. They will assist the team with a wide range of tasks involved in managing and constructing patches of native trees, shrubs and grasses. Students will also assist staff with engaging with members of the community and community groups to help them foster support and understanding of conservation issues relating to the native environment.
Student Requirements
The students must have an interest in botany, a passion for caring for native plants and be committed to protecting the environment and nature. Students must be able to communicate orally, be capable of following instructions and ask questions when not sure about any of the tasks allocated to them, as well as work well within a team. They must also be willing and committed to this type of work which is largely physical, manual outdoors work.
Dress Requirements
Steel capped boots must be worn and supplied by the students. Sun smart clothing.
Special Transport Requirements
