Allied Health Assistants will work under the direct supervision of health care professionals including Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists to provide therapeutic and program-related support in a variety of assistant roles as occupational therapy and speech pathology
Allied Health mostly will provide goal-based therapy for clients. Tasks can include providing patient care and encouraging patients to complete specific treatment plans related to injury, illness, well-being or disability-related physical issues.

The student may also attain vital industry specific skills which will relate to their secondary school studies they include:
Hands-on practical experience.
Observing and learning from industry qualified and experienced professionals.
Working in real-life scenarios.
Working with tools and equipment necessary to the occupation.
Liaising and working with supervisors, colleagues, industry personnel, patients/clients and suppliers.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Observation and participation in Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy sessions (Allied Health)
Attend in home sessions(with client permissions) to shadow ans support therapists
Support in-centre therapy sessions
Opportunities to observe and support administrative tasks

Student Requirements

An interest in working in the Health Care sector to support children (primarily) and families with a range of therapies
Students with a positive attitude towards Health are self-motivated, have a consistent and good work ethic, willing to listen and follow instructions are encouraged to consider a placement to develop skills

Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Student must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Maintain all privacy and confidentially requirements.
• Dress appropriately as per requirements.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow all instructions.
• Have good communication skills.
• Act in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.

Dress Requirements

Neat casual- suitable to be on floor with children (ie. no short skirts)

Special Transport Requirements

Students to arrange own transport
