A rare opportunity exists with “Your Regional Butchery” in the “hub” in Hamilton CBD! In this placement students will have the chance of hands-on practical experience in meat retailing. As well they will be observing and learning from qualified and experienced professionals. The shop owner is very supportive of the SWL program and staff are friendly. Students will be operating in a modern and well equipped butcher shop. This is a great opportunity to learn about the butchering trade.

Skills You Might Learn

The student will receive a basic understanding of butchery and customer service ,all OH&S standards and health standards required by a butcher retail business

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will assist the butcher in cleaning and maintaining the shop floor and work room. The student will pack and store products for display and sale, assemble and operate mincers, grinders, mixers, patty forming or sausage forming machines, prepare marinated meats and ready to cook dishes, advise customers about cuts and nutritional aspects of meat.

Student Requirements

The student will need to enjoy practical work, be in good health, able to cope with the physical demands of the job, good hand eye coordination and good interpersonal skills.

Dress Requirements

Work boots and long pants, apron provided

Special Transport Requirements

Workplace is accessible by town bus, and is within CBD if required to walk/ride
