One Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) placement is available during most weeks of Term 3 (subject to Tech School approval). Students will have their SWL confirmed only after successful completion of the Ballarat Tech School application process. You will receive confirmation of your placement within 2 weeks after your application has been received.

Structured Workplace Learning at the Ballarat Tech School aims to provide students with an engaging and structured introduction to working life in a STEM learning environment.

Within our state of the art facility, students will have extensive access to all things STEM related and experience first hand how staff with diverse skill sets collaborate to create meaningful and engaging learning programs.

Students will have the opportunity to work with educators, technicians and administrators so we encourage students to think deeply about what they want to achieve from their week with us to maximise the experience and equip themselves well for the future world of work.

Typical Tasks & Duties

During your SWL you will engage with a variety of digital and physical technologies such as laser cutters, 3D printers and robotics etc., and you will also be expected to perform a number of set task each day.

Technologies and tasks will vary for each student based on the events at the Tech School during your time with us.

Tasks may include:

• Updating the daily BTS program sign
• Recess/Lunchtime set up and pack down of activities
• Communicating with STEM Educators, Tech Officers & Administration Staff for daily tasks
• Program materials organisation & management
• Participating in daily staff briefings
• Assisting with STEM learning programs

You will receive confirmation of placement within 2 weeks of submitting your application.

Dress Requirements

While working at the Tech School students are expected to adhere to a dress code of neat casual.
This means that students should NOT wear (not an exhaustive list):

• Dress wear with offensive or explicit language/imagery
• Clothing that is overly revealing or too casual (e.g. ripped jeans, short length shorts, singlets)
• Hats and beanies
• Open toed shoes
• Excessive accessories and jewellery as this can pose an OHS risk during your placement.

Special Transport Requirements

The Tech School is centrally located at 136 Albert Street within the Ballarat CBD. Students must find their own way to and from their SWL each day. Public transport is readily available within the area.
