Skills You Might Learn

Whilst on placement the student will learn skills aligned with their VET studies including;
• Workplace health and safety
• Calculations and levelling
• Safe use, handling and storage of power tools
• Interpreting plans
• Framing
• Installation techniques
• How to respond effectively to customer requests
• Improved knowledge of industry, etc

Transferable skills that students may develop include;
• Communication
• Teamwork
• Time management

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will start with basic tasks including;
• Tool maintenance
• Reading plans
• Labouring
• Measuring and cutting
• Deck construction
Bring your best work ethic and enthusiasm to learn with you, and students will progress to more complex tasks as you learn.

Student Requirements

Placement ideally suited to students studying Cert II in Building and Construction, Cert II in Construction Pathways, Cert III in Building, or Cert III in Carpentry or similar.
Employer is looking for students with a genuine interest in the Building and Construction industry. In return, this placement offers the opportunity to get a great start to your building career.

Dress Requirements

Clothes and equipment suitable for a constrcutions site include;
• Steel capped boots
• High Vis vest
• Sun hat and sunscreen
• Long hair tied back

Special Transport Requirements

Student must organise own transport to work site.
To be discussed further at interview.
Current work sites are at; Coburg, Carlton, Lysterfield, South Melbourne
