Construction assistant

This creative and varied SWL opportunity is with an Employer who owns a Landscape Construction business, operating across the east of Melbourne. The company builds "nature play" spaces in green wedge and urban areas of Melbourne, with a lot of work being done in the Manningham region. The opportunity has a number of tasks across multiple industries so it would suit a student interested in building and construction, landscape gardening, landscape architecture, as well as a student interested in building outdoor spaces such as dry creek beds, large retaining walls.

Skills You Might Learn

Students will gain an understanding of all aspects of landscape construction. They will learn about the development of projects that provide urban and community spaces which focus on "nature play". The organisation is very creative and creates its own concrete sculptures as part of the features included in the developed space. Students will learn about measurements, calculations, communication skills required for working with clients including Local Governments and Community organisations.

Typical Tasks & Duties

There is opportunity for the students to be involved in building and construction while learning about earthmoving, paving, concrete masonry, rock work and rock placement, concrete sculpting, mass planting, building children's outdoor spaces and building dry creek beds.

Student Requirements

Student must be able to meet at the organisation's depot at 7.00am. Students must be physically fit, motivated and passionate about building creative, functioning and fun play and recreational spaces.

Dress Requirements

Fully enclosed, sturdy, steel capped work boots. Hat and sunscreen in the warmer weather.

Special Transport Requirements

Depot is opposite Alphington rail station, which is on the Hurtsbrige train line.
