Health and Community Services

Health and Community Services (H&CS) is based in Epping and is a registered provider in Victoria under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). They assist people living with a disability to navigate the NDIS program to obtain appropriate supports to meet their varied needs. Their multi-disciplinary team, consisting of general and mental health nurses, allied health practitioners and social workers, provides personalised support, tailored to meet an individual's unique needs and circumstances. H&CS maintain a focus on improvement and quality support. In this effort, young people attending secondary schooling have an important role to play. For this reason, H&CS invites students keen to learn more about disability services and eventually work in this area to consider a Structured Workplace Learning placement with this Organisation. The placement will be for one day a week for 10 weeks, one student at a time.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students undertaking the placement with H&CS will observe friendly, dedicated and experienced staff provide individualised care to people with disability, as well as helping them to navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Specifically, students will watch staff conduct comprehensive assessments to gain a deep understanding of the individual's needs and challenges, identify triggers and factors influencing the behaviour and then develop effective intervention strategies.

Student Requirements

- Students are required to be enthusiastic, punctual, self motivated and happy to work in a team environment
- Students will be expected to follow staff direction at all times
- Students will be expected to engage with staff and clients and participate in activities as required
- Students are encouraged to ask questions and take initiative for learning about the services offered
- Mobile phone use is STRICTLY PROHIBITED during work time.
