Typical Tasks & Duties
During your placement, you may be involved in some of the following:
Be involved in general grooming of animals, which may include eg. washing, brushing, clipping and trimming animals’ coats and nails and cleaning ears.
Feeding and watering animals.
Assist with ordering, unloading and storing of feed and supplies.
Assist with mixing of food, liquid formulas, medications or food supplements, on a needs be basis.
Assist where possible in providing treatment to sick or injured animals or contacting veterinarians about animals condition.
Collecting and recording information about animals.Be involved in examining and observing animals to detect signs of illness or injury.
Assist with laundry and keeping animal pens, stables and equipment clean, neat and tidy.
Liaise with other staff and customers.
Provide customer service.
Learn the functions of the animal care business.
General clean up duties, sweeping, raking, hosing down etc
Answer phones, operate computer.
Learn about and observe OH&S procedures and protocols.
Student Requirements
Some employers have specific requirements relating to student placements. These may include sending in a resume, sighting a current Working with Children Check (WWC), gaining parental permission for the student to travel with employer or attending an OH&S induction prior to commencing a placement. At interview please discuss with the employer start date & time, dates and any other additional requirements. Please ensure that the SWL arrangement form is signed and completed by all parties and a copy provided to the employer before the placement starts.

Another good idea is to look at the people at the workplace during your interview – observe what they are wearing and use this as a guide for how you should dress when you attend your placement.
Special Transport Requirements
Student is to arrange own transport to and from the employer. Not near public transport.
