An exciting new opportunity is available in 2024 at a well-renowned Landscaping Company. This employer has a great workplace environment, having won Holmesglen Tafe's Employer of the Year Award in recent years. Team leaders and apprentices within the company are known to deliver a high level of workmanship and on time service to clients.

This opportunity is for a student with a "Can-Do" attitude who is keen to expand their knowledge of horticulture and landscape construction and design.

Students will be a part of a professional and experienced team and will be paired with qualified landscapers/site supervisors who will mentor them throughout their placement.

The company services all of Metropolitan Melbourne, including the Mornington Peninsula - Students need to be able to access at least one of these locations to meet with their supervisor for their placement days: Hughesdale, Ferntree Gully or Prahran (only one student placement to each pick-up location meaning that capacity is not guaranteed)

Skills You Might Learn

Students will gain an understanding of the many aspects of landscape construction. They will learn about the development of projects and how to implement a finished product. Students may assist with smaller landscaping jobs ranging from 1 week to larger projects carrying 4 months.

The company is known for their particular focus on landscape construction, including decks, paving, retaining walls and all other aspects of landscape construction. By getting involved with a wide variety of tasks on varying job sites, students will quickly develop their knowledge and skill set in the area of landscape construction and be able to take these skills into their future building and construction endeavors.

Students will also learn about measurements/calculations and the communication skills that are required for working with a team and clients.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will assist a team to deliver a high level of workmanship through the opportunity to be involved with carpentry, earthmoving, paving, concrete masonry, rock work/ rock placement, and planting.

The role is construction oriented and students will work with their team to complete physical tasks and duties.

Student Requirements

*** Students will need to be at a designated pick-up point to meet their supervisors between 6.15-6.30am most mornings to make an on site start time is 7am ***

Students need to be able to access at least one of these locations to meet with their supervisor for their placement days: Hughesdale, Ferntree Gully or Prahran. Exact location in these suburbs will be determined in the students interview.

On site start time is 7am which means students will need to be at a designated pick up point to meet their supervisors between 6.15-6.30am most mornings. It is rare to be required to start placement days any earlier, but students who express interest in this position need to be flexible, as the company services all of Metropolitan Melbourne, including the Mornington Peninsula and start times can vary.

A travel form, as well as an SWL form will need to be completed for this placement opportunity, as students will be driven by their supervisors to site locations.

It is preferable for students to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Police check is required and can take time to acquire - please keep this in mind when requesting placement dates.

Dress Requirements

Students will need to wear suitable steel capped work boots and work shorts/pants. Company top and jumper to be provided.
