Red Cliffs Golf Club offers an opportunity for a student to have the chance of hands-on practical experience as a Greens Keeper Trades Assistant working closely with the clubs Course Superintendent. Students will also be observing and learning from qualified and experienced professional working closely with the clubs Course Superintendent.
Red Cliffs Golf Club have a Work Experience Opportunity (WE Opportunity) as a Greens Keeper Trades Assistant. The WE Opportunity is ideally suited to a Year 10 student or a VCE student interested in Turf Management.

Typical Tasks & Duties
As a Greens Keeper Trades Assistant, the student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified Course Superintendent assisting with general duties in the day to day work activities at the Red Cliffs Golf Club.
The student may observe and assist with the following tasks and duties;
- Setting up of the course for play that will include general tasks such as setting pins and tee markers.
- Assist with practical and mechanical activities.
- Undertake manual work therefore must be prepared to work outdoors.
- Assist with maintaining the soil and prepare garden beds, lawn areas and golf greens.
- Maintain playing surfaces, lawn areas and gardens by ensuring that they receive adequate water.
- Learn the use of basic greens keeping tools and equipment while undertake processes to assist with the maintenance of tools and equipment.
Student Requirements
Students with a positive attitude towards Turf Maintenance who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future WE placement to develop skills learned from their secondary school subjects.
Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the “Insert industry-based subject’ and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.
Dress Requirements
The student will be required to present in the following work attire;
• Work pants.
• Work shirt, hi visual.
• Work boots, steel cap.
• Wide brim hat.
• Safety eye protection for outdoor work duties.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.
Special Transport Requirements
Student is to arrange own transport to and from the employer.
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
