Strong Creations is offering a hands-on Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) placement for students passionate about woodworking, craftsmanship, and furniture design. Under the guidance of master craftsman Shane Strong, students will gain practical skills in woodworking, design, and workshop operations, working with high-quality Australian hardwoods. This placement provides a valuable introduction to the joinery and cabinet-making industry.
Skills You Might Learn
Hands-on experience with woodworking tools and machinery.
Knowledge of different timber types and their applications.
Understanding of workshop safety and procedures.
Development of problem-solving and craftsmanship skills.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Assisting in the construction of custom furniture using Australian hardwoods.
Learning woodworking techniques such as cutting, sanding, assembling, and finishing.
Reading and following detailed design plans.
Operating hand tools and machinery under supervision.
Assisting in workshop maintenance and safety procedures.
Student Requirements
Strong interest in woodworking, carpentry, or furniture design.
Willingness to learn in a hands-on workshop environment.
Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety protocols.
Dress Requirements
Steel-capped boots are mandatory.
Wear workwear or comfortable clothing suitable for a workshop environment.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as masks, eye protection, and gloves, will be provided by the employer.
Special Transport Requirements
Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the workplace.
