Moon Rabbit Cafe is an environmentally innovative social enterprise café that serves high-quality coffee and fresh, seasonal meals while providing employment and training opportunities for young people. Our mission is to create an inclusive and supportive environment where students can gain hands-on experience in hospitality while developing essential skills for future employment.
This placement is ideal for students interested in hospitality, food preparation, and customer service. Students will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of café operations, including making coffee, preparing food, and assisting in the kitchen, all while gaining real-world experience in a fast-paced and community-focused business.

Typical Tasks & Duties
Students will have the opportunity to spend time with experienced professional staff, assisting in the following example task and duties under supervision:
Depending on interests and availability, students will have the chance to take on the following roles:
🔹 Barista Assistant
• Assist with coffee preparation and drink service
• Operate and maintain coffee machines
• Take customer orders and handle payments
• Ensure a clean and organized coffee station
🔹 Kitchen Hand
• Support food preparation, including chopping, assembling dishes, and plating meals
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and adhere to food safety standards
• Assist in washing dishes and organizing kitchen supplies
• Help with stock rotation and inventory checks
🔹 Cook’s Assistant
• Learn basic cooking techniques and assist in meal preparation
• Follow recipes and portion guidelines
• Understand safe food handling practices
• Work alongside the head cook to prepare meals for customers
Tasks & Duties Students Will Experience
• Preparing and serving hot and cold beverages
• Handling customer orders and transactions
• Practicing good hygiene and food safety standards
• Assisting in kitchen preparation, cooking, and plating
• Maintaining a clean and organized workspace
• Understanding stock control and waste reduction strategies
• Engaging with customers and enhancing communication skills
It's important for work placement students to ask questions, seek guidance, and follow instructions from their supervisors to ensure they are performing their duties safely and effectively.
Student Requirements
Students are expected to be on time and ready to work safely in a team.
The student will be mature and prepared to go the extra mile. They will also need to show enthusiasm and an interest to learn new skills. They need to be focused and able to listen to instructions and follow through with instructions to complete a task. The student needs to be punctual and possess good work ethics.
