Stawell Gold Mines is located approximately 240 km northwest of Melbourne, 70 km southeast of Horsham and 2 km east of the Stawell CBD. All surface and underground infrastructure associated with the site’s operations are located within the MIN5260 lease area. Stawell Gold Mines has operated at its current location since 1981, which has involved the progressive mining of gold in a series of open pits and extensive underground workings. The surface operations are situated adjacent to the eastern boundary of the Stawell Township and encompass an approximate area of 380 ha. The site’s underground workings extend from the Magdala portal in a north-westerly direction underneath Stawell township.
Stawell Gold Mine has an exciting Admin Assistant opportunity for a student to undertake as Work Experience placement. This placement will allow students to engage within numerous roles in the areas of office administration, finance, human resources & accounts. Skills You Might Learn
Skills attained will include the following;
- Introduction to key business administration processes and administration roles.
- Experience working with computers and other administrative management tools in an office environment.
- Introduction to time management and team work.
- Introduction to workplace safety and following required standards.
- Customer service delivery.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Students will gain the knowledge and skills to achieve competence that will enhance their employment prospects related to general business administration;
- Introduction to general business administration processes.
- Develop an understanding of how business administration fits into the broader organisation.
- Working with Information Technologies in an office environment.
- Assisting with data entry, generating reports, filing and varied administrative processes.
Student Requirements
The following requirements must be met;
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work with a team
- Students are required to have a keen interest in manufacturing and engineering services.
- Student must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
- Dress appropriately.
- Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
- Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
- Be punctual and notify the workplace supervisor and careers teacher of any planned or unplanned absence from placement.
- Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements.
- Work within a team environment and share tasks and duties.
Dress Requirements
Dress requirements will be discussed with the successful student prior to commencement. Appropriate PPE must be worn in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety policy and procedure. Wear workwear that is comfortable and practical for work in a workshop- closed in toe and heel shoes/steel capped work boots.
Special Transport Requirements
The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Work Experience Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
