Plumbing work experience provides students with exposure to the installation, repair, and maintenance of water, drainage, and gas systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Students will observe and assist qualified plumbers in day-to-day tasks while learning about safety, regulations, and practical problem-solving.

Typical Tasks & Duties
Assisting with the installation and repair of pipes, taps, toilets, showers, and drainage systems.
Carrying tools, preparing work areas, and cleaning up after tasks.
Observing and learning how to read plans and diagrams.
Assisting with measuring, cutting, and joining pipes under supervision.
Learning about different materials (PVC, copper, steel, etc.) and fittings.
Helping test systems for leaks and correct operation.
Supporting the plumber with loading/unloading materials and maintaining stock.
Student Requirements
Completion of any required workplace safety modules (e.g., Safe@Work, White Card if construction site involved).
Ability to follow instructions carefully.
Good physical fitness and willingness to perform hands-on tasks.
Respectful attitude, punctuality, and professional behaviour.
Dress Requirements
Work boots (steel cap if required).
High-visibility vest or work shirt (supplied or arranged by host).
Work pants suitable for physical tasks.
Safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection where needed.
Weather-appropriate clothing for outdoor work.
Special Transport Requirements
Student to arrange own transport to the plumber’s workshop or job site.
Jobs may be in different locations – flexibility required.
Public transport, bicycle, or parent/guardian drop-off may be necessary if student doesn’t drive.
