Apprentice Diesel Mechanic. Students will gain hands‑on experience in a professional workshop, working alongside qualified mechanics who maintain, service, and repair diesel engines used in trucks, 4WDs, agricultural machinery, and heavy vehicles.
This opportunity is ideal for students interested in mechanical trades, engineering, agriculture, or heavy vehicle maintenance.
Students will participate in supervised workshop activities that introduce them to the role of a Diesel Mechanic. They will observe and assist with basic mechanical tasks, workshop processes, and service procedures, developing an understanding of how diesel engines operate and how technicians diagnose and repair mechanical faults.

Typical Tasks & Duties
Basic servicing tasks (oil changes, filter checks, cleaning components)
Workshop preparation and cleaning
Observing mechanical diagnostics and repairs
Identifying tools, parts, and workshop equipment
Supporting tradespeople with supervised tasks
Learning safe workshop practices
Recording simple workshop notes or job cards (if appropriate)
Student Requirements
Genuine interest in mechanics, engines, machinery, or hands‑on work
Willingness to follow instructions and work safely
Ability to work as part of a team
Suitable for Year 10 or VCE students
Teacher/parent consent is required
No prior mechanical experience needed, but curiosity and motivation are important
Dress Requirements
Students must attend in appropriate workshop‑safe clothing:
Work trousers (cotton drill or heavy‑duty)
High‑visibility or plain work shirt (no loose items)
Steel‑cap safety boots (required)
Long hair tied back
No jewellery, dangling items, or unsafe accessories
PPE such as gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection will be supplied by the workplace.
Special Transport Requirements
Students are responsible for arranging their own transport to and from the workplace
Public transport, school transport, or family drop‑off/pick‑up may be used
Students must arrive on time each day
