Skills You Might Learn
Whilst on placement students may gain an understanding and develop basic skills related to the flooring industry. General skills may include:
• Working under supervision
• Communication
• Teamwork
• Punctuality
• Different approaches to installation e.g., commercial vs domestic
And industry specific skills may include:
• Understanding and adhering to OH&S standards and requirements
• Following instructions from supervisors
• Site preparation
• Cutting and measuring flooring materials
• Installation techniques and tools
• Cleaning and other duties
Typical Tasks & Duties
Students will work under direct supervision of the Supervisor in charge and may undertake the following tasks and duties:
• Assist in the planning and preparation of sites
• Participating in safe work practices
• Move and handle materials as instructed
• Participate in cleaning duties as instructed
Student Requirements
Students must be willing to learn, have a genuine interest in the industry and work well in a team environment (there is also the opportunity for a School-based Apprenticeship or a full-time Apprenticeship).
Students to BYO lunch, snacks and drinks.
Mobile phones are not required for placement and should only be used on breaks and lunch time.
Dress Requirements
Students are required to wear:
• Work pants
• Steel capped boots
• And maintain a high level of appearance as they may work in full view of a clients
• Protective eyewear etc. will be provided if applicable
Hair must also be tied back if longer than shoulder length.
Note: In summer months students must wear a hat and sunscreen
Special Transport Requirements
Student to arrange own transport (or use public transport) to and from the office.
