South East Local Learning and Employment Network

The South East Local Learning and Employment Network (SELLEN) is a community managed regional network made up of local organisations, working to give Secondary Students opportunities to successfully transition from education to employment.

The South East Careers and Try a Trade Expo is SELLEN’s largest annual major event bringing together universities, TAFEs, RTOs, community services and industry. Exhibitors speak with local secondary school students about life and pathways after school. Students can engage in hands-on activities, with an extensive range of exhibitors in attendance.

This is a great opportunity for a student to participate in, and contribute to, the success of this exciting event.

Skills You Might Learn

Students without any prior experience will learn valuable industry and employability skills. This is a great opportunity for students considering a related VET course to build on their skills and knowledge. Skills which may be developed in this placement include:
• Communication
• Working within a team
• Flexibility & adaptability
• Customer service, including cash handling & eftpos transacting.
• Food handling
This is a great opportunity to be involved in the execution of a large event.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Typical tasks and duties students may be involved in include:

• Assist in preparing and serving fresh, high-quality food.
• Help maintain cleanliness and follow hygiene protocols.
• Deliver customer service with a friendly, positive attitude.
• Work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
• Support the team with some preparation and stock management.

Student Requirements

Students will be willing to learn and have a genuine interest in Event Management or volunteering. Being able to work in a team environment is important. This student will be required to attend on the actual day of the South East Career Expo which is Tuesday 12 May 2026. Students will be given a description of what is required prior to the event.

Dress Requirements

Dress code is neat casual with closed in shoes

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport available, further transport discussion to be had with employer prior to event day.
