The Forest and Fire Engagement Team is part of the Bushfire and Forest Services Group within DEECA. The team works with communities, schools and landholders to reduce bushfire risk, protect the environment and educate the public about fire safety and land management. This includes supporting planned burns, community engagement programs and environmental protection activities.

Student will gain an insight into:
• risk-based bushfire management and planning
• recreation site planning and maintenance
• fire prevention and preparedness
• fuel management programs (including planned burning)
• Other land management activities including pest and weed control, road management and
vegetation management.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Work experience placements include activities such as preparing fuel-reduction burns, managing recreation sites and forest infrastructure, ecological and heritage field work, and community engagement.

• Interest in forest management, fire prevention and emergency management, ecology, tourism,
planning, community engagement, mapping, data collection and analysis.
• Willingness to take on different tasks and ask questions

Waterproof jacket
Steel capped shoes
Sunscreen and Hat
Must dress appropriately for difficult bush settings where weather can be unpredictable
Special Transport Requirements
Students are responsible for getting to and from the workplace
Public transport or parent/guardian drop-off recommended
