This is a great Work Experience (WE) opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the Creative Arts and Culture Industry – Broadcast Technology as a Broadcast Media and Communication Assistant with the community radio station Hot FM Mildura. Students will gain practical experience in a busy community radio environment.
Hot FM Mildura Community Radio is well established in the Sunraysia region, with a loyal listening audience and a strong sponsor base. Hot FM focuses on country music during the day, with multicultural programs and a variety of music genres featured across evening time slots.
If you have a keen interest in the media industry, particularly radio, Hot FM Mildura provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable, real-world work experience.

Students with a positive attitude towards the Creative Arts and Culture Industry – Broadcast Technology, particularly in the role of a Broadcast Media and Communication Assistant, who are self‑motivated and willing to listen and follow instructions are encouraged to consider this Work Experience (WE) opportunity. This placement supports students in developing and applying skills gained through their studies, including VET Music or VET Screen and Media.
Typical Tasks & Duties
The student will work under the direct supervision of qualified and experienced staff, assisting with a range of general radio production tasks and daily operations within the station.
Tasks and duties may include:
Assisting with the production of content for radio programs
Supporting program preparation and conducting basic research
Using audio software to edit and prepare audio samples
Learning the operation of radio studio equipment and broadcasting systems
Assisting with general office administration and reception duties as directed
Maintaining a clean and organised work environment
Supporting radio presenters during live broadcasts, if willing and confident to do so
These tasks will provide the student with practical insight into the workings of a community radio station and the broadcast media industry.
Student Requirements
While undertaking the Work Experience placement, students are expected to:
Demonstrate a genuine interest in the Creative Arts and Culture Industry – Broadcast Technology
Display good communication skills
Be willing to spend periods of time observing staff and undertaking tasks as requested
Dress appropriately for the workplace
Maintain interest and actively participate in tasks and work duties
Behave in a well‑mannered, respectful, and responsible way at all times
Be punctual and reliable
Follow instructions provided by management and supervising staff
Comply with all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements
Work cooperatively as part of a team
Listen to and take advice from supervisors and fellow workers
Respect the property and belongings of others
Demonstrate skills and knowledge developed through their course of study
Dress Requirements
Students are required to wear appropriate work attire, including neat casual clothing and closed‑in footwear. Clothing that may be considered offensive is not permitted.
Special Transport Requirements
Public transport is limited. Students are advised to make their own transport arrangement.
