Skills You Might Learn

Students will develop an understanding of bricklaying techniques, workplace safety, teamwork, and communication within a construction environment. They will gain practical knowledge of brick orientation, mortar application, structural components, and different brick types, while building confidence in using tools and working alongside qualified tradespeople.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will shadow qualified bricklayers to learn about the techniques involved in bricklaying. Students will learn about brick orientation, mortar application, structural components, and types of brick. Students will learn the art of bricklaying.

Student Requirements

Students will need to have an interest in building and construction and be suited to outdoor work. Students will need to be physically fit.
Students are expected to demonstrate a positive attitude, genuine interest in the industry, and willingness to learn. They should be reliable, punctual, and present themselves in a professional manner appropriate to the workplace. They must be able to follow instructions, ask questions when unsure, and respond constructively to feedback. A commitment to workplace health and safety, respect for supervisors and colleagues, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.
Students will require a resume and an interview.

Dress Requirements

Students are expected to wear steel capped work boots, trade-pants with hi-vis shirts, jackets suitable for outdoor work. Students will need a hat and jacket suitable for outdoor weather. Hair should be tied back and minimal jewellery and make-up.

Special Transport Requirements

This placement is in Warracknabeal. Students are to make their own travel arrangements to attend the placement.
A travel form will be required.
