Central Goldfields Shire - Community Partnerships

Housed within the Corporate Wellbeing Directorate at Central Goldfields Shire Council, this placement within Community Partnerships provides students with an opportunity to assist the Community Partnerships team in delivering key services and programs for community health and wellbeing.
The team develop and monitor the Municipal Public Health & Wellbeing Plan (incorporated in Council Plan), engage and mobilise the community in activating their community plans, deliver youth services & statutory emergency management functions, coordinate delivery of community grants and operate Library services throughout the Shire
Skills You Might Learn
Students will gain an understanding of the role Community Partnerships plays within the Council and may have the opportunity to attain a broad range of skills while on work placement including general employability skills such as:
• Workplace communication
• Working as part of a team
• Punctuality
• Following instruction
• Working under supervision
The student may also attain vital industry specific skills which may include:
• Understanding the wide range of activities that the directorate undertakes e.g., Guiding the council towards fair and ethical operations
• Understanding the value from debriefing and implementing continuous improvement to service delivery
• How to keep up with relevant regulations and implement policies and procedures
• Planning and organising
• Administration - using office software/databases, data entry and record keeping, organising documents
Typical Tasks & Duties
Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of staff assisting with general administration duties across a range of areas while gaining an insight into working in Local Government.
Whilst on placement, students may assist the staff in areas including:
• Health & Wellbeing Plan
• Community Plans
• Youth Services
• Statutory Emergency Management
• Community Grants
• Library services
Completing all related placement tasks as assigned by Central Goldfields Shire Council trained staff.
Student Requirements
Students must be punctual, have a willingness to learn, take initiative and be aware that they will be representing the Council particularly when working in public spaces and attending business meetings.
Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.
Dress Requirements
Neat and smart clothing appropriate for the workplace with closed shoes e.g., no sport shoes, jeans or t-shirts.
If you don't have this type of clothing, you can wear your school uniform.

Public transport is available.
