This Structured Workplace Learning opportunity provides Community Services VET students with practical experience in the aged care and health support sector at Rupanyup Aged Care, operated by West Wimmera Health Service. Students will observe and assist staff in supporting elderly residents within a residential aged care setting. The placement offers exposure to person-centred care, communication with residents and families, teamwork within a healthcare environment, and the day-to-day operations of aged care services. Students will develop an understanding of the importance of empathy, respect, confidentiality, and professional conduct when working with older members of the community.

Typical Tasks & Duties
Assisting staff with group lifestyle and recreational activities for residents
Supporting residents during social interactions and community engagement activities
Assisting with meal preparation, meal service, and dining room setup/pack-up
Helping maintain clean, safe, and organised common areas
Observing staff communication and care practices within an aged care environment
Greeting and interacting respectfully with residents, visitors, and staff
Assisting with simple administrative or reception tasks where appropriate
Following workplace health and safety, infection control, and confidentiality procedures
Participating in team discussions and daily workplace routines
Student Requirements
Students are expected to demonstrate a positive attitude, genuine interest in the industry, and willingness to learn. They should be reliable, punctual, and present themselves in a professional manner appropriate to the workplace. They must be able to follow instructions, ask questions when unsure, and respond constructively to feedback. A commitment to workplace health and safety, respect for supervisors and colleagues, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.
Dress Requirements
Smart, neat attire (Federation University Student polo shirts, neat dress pants (no jeans or leggings), enclosed comfortable shoes, no jewellery, short clean nails and hair tied back. Unacceptable: Clothing with non-school logos or inappropriate designs, ripped jeans or leggings.
Special Transport Requirements
This placement is in Rupanyup. Students are to make their own travel arrangements to attend the placement.
