Gain valuable experience working alongside Ventia's hospitality team in a commercial kitchen at Puckapunyal Military Area. Students will observe and assist with food preparation, kitchen operations, cleaning and food safety while learning how professional kitchens operate and support Defence personnel. This placement provides an excellent introduction to careers in hospitality and commercial cookery.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students may have the opportunity to:

- Observe commercial kitchen operations.
- Assist with preparing simple food items under supervision.
- Wash crockery, utensils and kitchen equipment.
- Clean and sanitise food preparation and dining areas.
- Set up and pack down food service areas.
- Restock kitchen supplies and consumables.
- Assist with stock rotation and storage.
- Maintain a clean and organised workspace.
- Follow food safety and hygiene procedures.
- Support chefs and kitchen staff with general duties.

Student Requirements

Students should demonstrate:

- An interest in hospitality or commercial cookery.
- A willingness to learn and follow instructions.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good personal hygiene and presentation.
- A commitment to following workplace health, safety and food safety procedures.

Dress Requirements

Students are expected to wear:

- Closed, non-slip enclosed footwear.
- Long pants.
- Plain shirt or school uniform.
- Hair tied back if long.
- Minimal jewellery.
- Good personal hygiene.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as provided by Ventia.

Special Transport Requirements

This placement is located within Puckapunyal Military Area. Public transport is limited. Students should arrange private transport unless alternative arrangements have been made by the school or host employer.
