At Gary Schmidt Electrical numerous work vehicles head out to job sites each morning and normally students will be in one of them. The owner has many years of experience and a long history of supporting student work placement. Staff are supportive and students will be given worthwhile experiences in the various aspect of a major electrical contractor. For energetic and enthusiastic students Gary Schmidt Electrical has much to offer.

Skills You Might Learn

Students will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of the very basic principles of electricity and of the use of specific tools and procedures relevant to electricity supply and uses. Students will learn how to interact with work colleagues as they will be out on work sites with a qualified electrician during their working day.

Typical Tasks & Duties

This position will include duties such as tidying workshop areas and observing basic electrical procedures while under supervision. For the majority of their time students will work with qualified employees to assist them in their roles. Tasks like laying cables, trenching and helping with tools and equipment will make up the students day.

Student Requirements

The student must have completed the OH&S module in WRS VCAL or else have begun the OH&S module for the relevant VET course.

Dress Requirements

Neat casual clothes suitable to an electrical workplace plus sturdy footwear are the requirements.

Special Transport Requirements

There is a town bus but students may need to make their own way to work.
