This is an opportunity for a student who has an interest in the construction industry to experience first hand an entry level position that will enable the student to discover if this industry is for them. This placement will take the student to different work sites and supervisors, involves heavy lifting and the ability to work closely within the team.

Skills You Might Learn

The student will observe OHS procedures on the work site at all times,will learn how a construction site is prepared before work is commenced on site, perform basic carpentry, demolition and preparation work, learn to follow directions and be flexible in work practices to fit into what ever team the student is assisting with on his placement day.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will assist the trades people with the store and stacking of materials, lifting and carrying products used in laying of footpaths,assisting with commercial pouring of slabs under supervision, carry out steel fixing, concreting to simple forms,repair pavements and remove site fencing. The students task will vary from curb and channeling, mixing mud, boxing footpaths out to lifting blue stone blocks,shifting and wheelbarrow dirt and concrete on site.

Student Requirements

The student needs to be able to cope with the physical demands of the job, able to lift heavy objects and enjoy practical and outdoor work.

Dress Requirements

Full trade gear is required including work boots. Long sleeve shirt is recommended plus hat.
